Functions and duties of the organization

No ImageThe industrial training Wing of Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training has been entrusted with the responsibility of imparting vocational training in Engineering and Non-Engineering trades under craftsman training scheme & App. Training scheme to cater to the needs of the industry in respect of skilled workers. Industrial Training Institute for Women Phagwara work under Craftsman Training Scheme of Government of India, Director – General Employment and Training under the directions of National Council of Vocational Training which is the apex body at Government of India level for co-ordinating development of Vocational Training in the country. Similar to the National Council for Vocational Training at Central level, State council for Vocational Training at state level is responsible for Co-ordinating an integrated development of Vocational Training.

No ImageInstitute Management Committee (I.M.C) has also been set to involve the concerned industry in the day to day management of the institution. This is to ensure acceptability of the final product by the industry. The Institute is Headed of the Head Master. At present a total staff strength of 6 instructors Class C, 2 Class C-Clerical staff and 3 Class D officials in the institute.

  1. To equip the students with latest emerging technologies, skills and knowledge up to the level of globally competitive standards.
  2. To maintain a continuous interface with industry and to bring changes in time according to the needs of industry.
  3. To enhance the ability to anticipate and shape further the skills of budding engineers though individual and group activities to include and encourage a life long thirst for learning in students.
  4. To encourage the conceptual, inter personnel and team work skills for technical decision making among the students.

About The Institution

In order to meet with this increased demand of the industry and to provide extensive employment to the youth by training them in various engineering & non-engineering trades.In the highly competitive age of today, the vast application of engineering and technology across all sectors of society has become highly indispensable, which hold premises for us to move fast, ahead in 21st century.

No ImageCompetitiveness often depends on how our technical education institutions are able to respond to the need of industry. We have no dearth of talent or lack of competence in our country. Our engineering institutes need to prove the world at large that the Indian technicians are globally competative. Industrial Training Institutes of Department of Technical Education & Industrial Training has assumed the key role in this scenario. Thus we have to train the human resources with required skill in engineering & non – engineering trades and their applications. Professionals trained at our institute have excelled in industry.

No ImageFor the implementation of the craftsman training scheme, Industrial Training Institute, (w) Phagwara was started in 01-10-1958 vide Government, Punjab Industries Department, Simla-2 memo.no.6934-S-5CB-58/ 60963, Dated 12th August 1958. The Institute was shifted from rented building to its own new building on 21st May,1962 in the forenoon vide state HQ memo no.PHG-9/5266 dated 13-03-1962. The campus area of institute is 2.86 ACRES approx. The institute is situated in the high locality, Model Town near P.W.D. Rest House G.T. Road Phagwara.

No Image At present training is imparted in 2 Non-Engineering trades and 1 Engineering trade at this institute. The institute has sanctioned capacity of 84 seats. Normally the period of training of Non-Engineering trades is one year. At present the popular trades are Cutting & Tailoring, Embroidery & Needle Work and Computer Operator & Programmer Assistant(C.O.P.A). This institute imparts training in regular certificate courses in 2 trades as mentioned below to the youth and pre cum post release training to the retiring defense personnel before their retirement so they may start their own use full venture to get themselves employed in public & private sector.

Admission Procedure

No ImageEligibility: - The minimum qualification is matric. The minimum qualification is middle for some trades and 10+2 for C.O.P.A Trade.

The admission is purely made on merit of marks obtained in the qualifying Examination. The candidate should be resident of Punjab. The reservation to the Admission for Punjab is 85% and 15% for the other states. The approximate Annual fee is Rs.3400/- including all funds and securities.The detailed instructions regarding various trades available in this institute and their duration and other rules & regulations are given in the Prospectus Published by Govt. time to time.
